Drinking Cat | A Peaceful Glamping Trip

Have you ever done anything spontaneous and out of your comfort zone? Because that’s what happened in March of last year.
After a not-so-fun Friday afternoon at the immigration office sorting out my visa for my third year living and teaching English in South Korea, I was invited to the strawberry festival in the neighbouring city of Nonsan. I went there the previous year, but sadly missed out on the strawberry picking experience due to the pre-booking system that I didn’t know about at the time. So when I was presented with the opportunity (at 10pm on Friday) to catch a coach to all expenses paid trip with overnight glamping (the coach was at 8 am the next morning), I contemplated it for approximately 10 seconds before saying “I’m in!”
This is one of the lovely cats we met at our glamping site after the day of strawberry wonders and delights. There were a handful of static caravans and a sense of community between guests. After the festival, my friend, Ali, and I went to explore the area. There were bunnies, a little shop and cafe (that only served Americanos), some abandoned buildings, an empty pool and a haunted house, which was actually surprisingly creepy.
In the evening, we had a wonderful K-bbq meal as a group. After dinner, we huddled around the fire for s’mores and games, including name the song and artist (I did surprisingly well with this one). It was lovely to spend time outside and get to know the other people on the trip.
The next morning, it was time for the classic Korean camping breakfast of cup ramen and rice. Yum!
I have often struggled with FOMO (the Fear Of Missing Out) but I’ve found that when you leave space in your busy schedule and allow for some spontaneity, you may be surprised by what comes in.
